NIAGARA Ultra 50 Km and Half Marathon

Woke up bright and early Saturday morning around 5am. Headed out for my 3rd race of the season. A half marathon. It was a sunny breezy gorgeous morning. The "Ultra crazy people" went off first at 7:00am. Then we were off at 7:30.

I started out well, but again too fast this time I was able to correct myself. I settled into a good 8:30 pace after about the first mile which I ran about 7:25. The biggest problem with that was when I slowed a lot of people passed me and that kinda got into my head. The view was excellent we ran right beside the river on a really nice paved path.

I ran in 1:52 that's about 8:33 pace. Mike had a great run he ran it in 2:04 a PB for him.
My half split for Ottawa was 1:50:26..I have to admit I am a bit disappointed with my time. My legs were very tired and I think I am still healing from last month. Plus I don't think I got enough running in before this race. Yes I skipped way too many runs and was not as prepared as I could have been.

Other than that we had a great time from the wine tour, to Port Dalhousie and seeing the falls for the first time since I was a kid. I think we walked more than 13miles after the run.

Now commence training for DETROIT. I think I am going to set my sights on 3:30 with some really hard intense training I know I can do it!

I ran this race as well. Very nice run, well organized and the people were very friendly group. Many of the people there were regulars and knew each other from the Ultra Series and I have to say they made everyone they didn't know feel very welcomed. I hit a PB as did many people from what I have heard. Plenty of shade as well along the way. Recomment the race in the future.

Jeff wondering what your email is? I noticed we were also in Ottawa at the same time. I ran the 5k, it was for a friend of mine who is new to running. You running Toronto Scotiabank or Disney by any chance? Also wondering how you found my BLOG?

Congrats on a great race, even if the time isn't what you were aiming for. You are still recovering for last month, and your body is probably preparing for the 'intense' training!

Good luck
